Crowlands Heath youngster Jack Halls has become the first winner of the Essex under-12 boys' championship with victory at his home course.
The 11-handicapper was one of 24 youngsters hoping to get their hands on the inaugural trophy. The championship was played over 18 holes off scratch, while the youngsters also played for the Brian Fuller Cup in the Stableford handicap competition. Halls ensured home-course advantage proved crucial at Crowlands Hill - a ninehole course with 18 tee positions - by returning an impressive seven-over-par 72.
That score was matched by 11-year-old John Withington, from Canons Brook, but Halls was declared the winner on countback.
Sam O'Brien, from Lexden Wood, was third with a round of 80 while Abridge's Mark Brenner was fourth with 83. The Brian Fuller trophy went to Woolston Manor's Freddie Moncur who scored 42 Stableford points off a handicap of 24. Again it was a close finish with the winner and second divided by countback and Keiran Whiting, from Gosfield Lake missing out.
