The sun shone on Machynys Peninsula Golf Club and Spa and all turned pink on Saturday 29th August in aid of Cancer Research Wales with special awareness for breast cancer. 100 golfers turned out all dressed in pink.
The club raised an impressive £10,000 for Cancer Research Wales, who will use the money to benefit local cancer research.
Mark Reed, General Manager said; "This was a fantastic event where everyone who took part had a fun time but more importantly they helped raise a staggering £10,000".
Recently there have been significant breakthroughs in breast cancer research and it is events like these and public donations that help make this happen.
All golfers warmed to the theme, wearing an array of pink, the best dressed prize went to Steve Williams who won with a cracking pair of pink strides.
The day carried on and competitions continued, with prizes for longest drive, won by Doreen Davies and Antonio Corbisiero and nearest to the pin, won by 13 year old Greg Hicks, who was also overall winner and won a week's trip for two to the beautiful hilltop village of Airole in Italy. Greg's parents were more than delighted as he donated his prize to them to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
Returning golfers to the clubhouse were greeted by the inspiring 30 strong Llanelli based Cor Meibion choir, followed by evening entertainment including the talented local boy Kenny Morris with Mike Williams providing the disco sounds way into the early hours of the morning. The auction included some amazing prizes including full Hospitality for four at The Emirates Golf, Dubai Golf Classic, luxury weekend golfing break at Ryder Cup Venue Celtic Manor as well as spa days and golf lessons.
'Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves today and we were all delighted to hear how much the event raised for the charity,' said Mavis Stocker, (Event Organiser) 'I would like to thank all the sponsors and the fantastic staff at Machynys. We all can't wait to do it again next year.'
