The First Tee official UK launch at Heaton Park in June

Over 200 children from 12 local primary schools and special guests will be participating in a Golf Fun Day at Heaton Park Academy to celebrate the official launch of the first official The First Tee® Chapter in the United Kingdom, ‘The First Tee of Manchester'.

The event, which runs from 10 am - 4 pm on Monday 22 June 2009, is being jointly co-ordinated by The First Tee of Manchester and North Manchester School Sports Partnership team in partnership with Leisure Services Manchester City Council and Mack Trading Amenity Management.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for children to try a new sport and learn about its many benefits. The facilities available to them at Heaton Park are tremendous and I'm sure they will all really enjoy the day - who knows we might even find the next Tiger Woods."

The session will feature the First Tee Life Skills Experience ‘Target' programme. Target has been specially designed as an outreach programme to introduce young people to the game of golf and the life skills inherent in the sport including honesty, integrity and confidence; in a fun, activity-based environment.

Participants will get the opportunity to learn golf and life skills through fun activities using Tri Golf equipment, with certified The First Tee instructors with the assistance of secondary school students who have completed the Golf Foundation's Junior Golf Leadership Programme.
