Mathchplay partners with Daily Telegraph

The UK's leading amateur golf competition has joined forces with the nation's leading broadsheet newspaper as the Matchplay Championship goes from strength to strength.

The Matchplay Championship has already bucked the economic trend in 2009 by securing new sponsors for the 2009/10 competition in Golf Monthly magazine and award-winning retailer Direct Golf UK.

And following on from agreeing a deal with Sky Sports for the Matchplay Championship's regional and grand finals to be televised, the event has now partnered with the Daily Telegraph.
The event will henceforth be known as the ‘Matchplay Championship in association with the Daily Telegraph' - a move hailed by both parties.

John Woosey, managing director of The Golfer's Club which organises the Matchplay Championship, said: "We are delighted to be able to announce this partnership which is further testament to the burgeoning reputation and profile of the Matchplay Championship.

"The demographic of Telegraph readers sits perfectly with that of the event, which will now be promoted to the paper's readership through its various media channels."

Steve Stiles, the senior manager for interactive sport at the Telegraph, added: "It's vital, as a national newspaper, to align ourselves only with events that will be of major interest to our golf audience. The Matchplay Championship is such an event and we are therefore delighted to be associated with the event and to promote it to our readers."

The popularity and value of the competition is unquestionable, with 16 lucky pairs of golfers having just returned from this year's grand final at the spectacular five-star Marriott Taba Heights Resort in Egypt - all for an entrance fee of just £20.

The 2009/10 Matchplay Championship, in association with the Daily Telegraph, is now open for entries. To enter or for further details visit www.matchplaychampionship.co.uk
